Hello! My name is Lucky Nielsen (really, it’s on my birth certificate) and I’m an artist in Minneapolis, MN.
I grew up an only child deprived of pop culture. Having no television and exclusively shopping at the co-op (back when the co-op was just bins of flour), I was teased in grade school for being completely ignorant of Cap’n Crunch cereal. Having no siblings, I channeled all of my affection into unappreciative feral cats.
I did, however, have the library and artistic parents. (My first memory is painting on a canvas that my mother made which was larger than myself.) Naturally, I gravitated toward pencil and paper and set about amusing myself by creating illustrated stories from my imagination. In 3rd grade, my obsession with Garfield led me to develop a comic starring “Buckey Bunny”, a lovable fool. (Mostly, I liked drawing x-ray views of his furnished rabbit hole.) I was also inspired by the people around me. I wrote and illustrated a “compelling” series about my grandparents and their fishing trips.
As an adult, I’m pretty much doing the same thing. I love to needle felt, sew, write, design… but I love to illustrate the very most. I have finally found a cat, Roger, who is emotionally available, and I have the most delightful, creative daughter who supplies me with endless inspiration.
I dig working on fun projects with interesting people. Please contact me if you’d like to collaborate on a project or if you’d like to discuss licensing art (full portfolio for licensing, only available upon request).
